REI FLASH PACK 22 & 18 (17OZ & 12OZ)
These minimal, versatile, and stowable daypacks are great for nearly any excursion and they make excellent gifts. They’re great for carrying light loads and can easily be stuffed into a larger bag on longer trips. I prefer the Flash 22 over the Flash 18 because of the lid pocket and water bottle holsters, but both packs are a great buy.
NIKE DRI-FIT SHORTS
Nike Dri-Fit running shorts make excellent hiking shorts. They’re comfortable, flexible, and they dry very quickly when wet. They have built in liners - so you won’t need extra underwear on the trail - and pockets, which come in handy as well.
PORLEX MINI COFFEE GRINDER
Grinding coffee beans just before you brew is one of the most important steps to making great tasting coffee. The Porlex Mini hand grinder is a portable and effective way to grind beans on the go. I use this little guy with my AeroPress on camping trips and around the house. It’s fantastic.
SUUNTO M-3 D LEADER COMPASS (1.6OZ)
The Suunto M-3 D Leader is my top pick compass for reliable navigation in the field. One handy feature of this compass is adjustable declination correction, which is a calculation that trips up many backpackers when taking bearings in the field. The luminous markings are a nice touch as well for nighttime use.
REI CO-OP QUARTER-ZIP SHIRT
I’m a big fan of using quarter-zip long sleeves shirts on my backcountry trips. They work great for layering during cool days or under a coat in camp. This REI Quarter-Zip comes in a bunch of different colors for men and women and makes a great gift.
MSR POCKETROCKET STOVE (3OZ)
The MSR PocketRocket is a very dependable, durable, and effective backcountry stove. It has simmer control to make backcountry cooking easier and it pairs well any lightweight cook pot (I recommend the Snow Peak Ti Mini Solo Set). This backcountry classic makes an excellent gift.
SAWYER SQUEEZE WATER FILTER (3OZ)
The Sawyer Squeeze is the best water filter on the market for performance, weight, and cost. It’s an absolute slam-dunk gift for any outdoor enthusiast. It has a slightly better flow rate than the Sawyer Mini (2oz), which makes it ideal tool for backpacking trips of all kinds.
HYDRO FLASK WIDE MOUTH 40OZ BOTTLE (17OZ)
The Hydro Flask vacuum bottle is great for keeping cold beverages cold (24 hours) and hot drinks hot (12 hours). They come in a range of sizes and colors, are great for packing beer, coffee, tea, and soup. They make excellent gifts for anyone with an active lifestyle.
SNOW PEAK TI HOTLIPS MUG (3OZ)
Titanium coffee mugs are durable, light, functional, and stylish. But they’re also a bit on the spendy side, which is why they make a great gift for pampering nature lovers. The HotLips accessory on this Snow Peak Ti Mug is an excellent tool to keep your lips from getting burned.
SWISS ARMY HUNTSMAN KNIFE (4OZ)
The light and compact Swiss Army Huntsman knife boasts an impressive array of thirteen different tools. The most useful are its two blades, saw, scissors, can opener, screwdriver, and tweezers. It’s a great multi-tool for any adventure.
REI TECH-COMPATIBLE GLOVES
The REI Tech-Compatible gloves are excellent for cold weather use around town and on short jaunts into nature. They work great on smartphones, which can come in handy when taking pictures and using your phone on the go.
PETZL E+LITE HEADLAMP (.95OZ)
The e+LITE headlamp is everything you need in a backpacking headlamp without any unnecessary extras. It’s bright, light, highly functional, and cost effective. It’s small enough to bring on all your backcountry trips and useful enough to become one of your favorite pieces of gear.
AEROPRESS COFFEE & ESPRESSO MAKER
The AeroPress is one of my all-time favorite coffee makers. The key with the AeroPress is that coffee grounds don’t soak in hot water too long. So the coffee tastes really smooth, not bitter at all. I use it to make coffee on camping trips, but I also use it most mornings at home too.
DKNIGHT MAGICBOX BLUETOOTH SPEAKER
This small and compact Magicbox bluetooth speaker makes a great gift for use around the house or at a campsite. I use mine on all trips of all types and it comes in very handy.
