Bottom Line
The Terignota Sendero are among the most innovative and budget-friendly in our lineup of men’s hiking shorts. The high-capacity waistband, quick-drying fabric, and lightweight comfort make it a high-value option, and it quickly earned our Budget Buy award.
While there are many options out there for traditional cargo shorts, there are fewer options for carrying items bounce-free. Enter the Sendero. With a voluminous waist-pocket system that feels akin to a running belt, items can be stored close to the body. We love this for keeping snacks or small items like gloves or a buff close to hand. The fabric used throughout the shorts is light and airy, allowing for great breathability and quick drying.
For being the cheapest shorts in our lineup, the Sendero can outperform products priced twice as much or more. However, for the price, there is a small drawback in durability. We found that both the internal liner and waist belt loosened with use. Despite this small shortcoming, the Sendero lands near the top of our list for its excellent performance at a low price.

Pros
- High-capacity waistband
- Budget-friendly
- Dried quickly
- Highly breathable
Cons
- Not as durable as others
- High waistband can be uncomfortable under a backpack

Comfort
The Terignota Sendero is a lightweight, airy-feeling short with excellent breathability. The 5-inch inseam is great for avoiding excess fabric, and we noticed no chafing or rubbing. The high-capacity waistband rides higher than most other shorts, coming up almost to the belly button. This takes a little getting used to at first, but quickly becomes comfortable and secure. However, when wearing a backpack, we found that this higher waist became a little uncomfortable, pressing against the lower back.
The shorts feature an internal liner, which we found a little loose and not the most supportive. Despite this small design quirk, we found the Sendero to be perfect for all-day adventures, keeping us happy and comfy for hours.

Durability
For the price, we have been impressed with the Sendero’s breathability. After three months of use, we noticed no signs of wear in the fabric, and all seams continue to hold up. However, we did notice some stretching of both the waist pocket material and the liner. While not enough to significantly impact use, it is something that we noticed over time. While the thin material is breathable, these might not be the best choice for bushwhacking or scraping against rocks.

Features
The standout feature of the Terignota Sendero is its voluminous waist belt carry system. More resembling a running belt, this system is excellent for keeping items secure. We particularly enjoyed this when wearing a smaller backpack, as we were able to bring more items.
We successfully carried, without bounce, a phone, gloves, keys, buff, and snacks. We found that we could easily carry enough items for an hour-or-two outing, eliminating the need for a backpack.

Dry Time
With its ultrathin fabric, the Sendero boasts one of the best dry times in our lineup. After soaking and exposing to sun and a breeze, they dried out in a few minutes. We never experienced any sweat soaking during high-output activities, as it wicked away quickly and evaporated. These are excellent for trail excursions, jumping into an alpine lake, and drying again quickly.

Weight & Packability
Weighing in at 4.6 ounces, the Sendero is in the top three lightest shorts in our lineup. Packing down to a ball about the size of an apple and small enough to fit in one of the waistband pockets, it’s extremely packable. We brought these on a week-long road trip, and they hardly took up any room in our bag. For a light pair of shorts that packs down to almost nothing, the Sendero is an excellent choice.

Should You Buy the Terignota Sendero Shorts?
The Terignota Sendero shorts are perfect for anyone who wants to move fast and light and needs some extra cargo-carrying capacity on a bounce-free platform. With one of the lowest prices in our lineup, the Sendero is accessible to almost any budget. Rookie hikers and veterans alike will be impressed with the Sendero’s price and performance, making it a high-value pair of shorts.
While highly technical-looking, these shorts may lack the versatility of others, but they are the perfect shorts for high-output days on the trail. We frequently reached for these on both trail runs and hikes, and appreciated being able to store just about anything we needed for shorter outings in the stretch-pocket waistband. If you like to keep items close and secure, check out the Terignota Sendero.
