Bottom Line

The Coleman Compact Roll Top Aluminum Camping Table is sturdy and versatile, making it the perfect companion for extra surface space next to your truck’s tailgate.

We found that the 28.5-inch height is ideal for prepping food or enjoying a meal with the right chairs. The heat-resistant aluminum slat top is lightweight and perfect for hot pots and pans.

It will scratch, but that doesn’t affect its durability, and it won’t get ruined in the rain. We also like the price and consider it a great value for its reliability.

Setting it up is easy with a frame that pulls out in one piece, and the tabletop snaps easily onto two lightweight, removable poles. Just be careful not to pinch your fingers when closing the frame back up during breakdown!

How We Tested

During a winter camping season, we used this table in our car as a gear storage spot, a small dinner table, a prep area, and a workspace. It held up against snow, rain, and sand.

Stability & Durability

The Coleman Compact Aluminum Roll-Top Table is reliably stable. We set it up on various terrains, including snow, dirt, gravel, and sand, and it remained solid without any wobbling, regardless of what we placed on it.

The aluminum top scratches easily, but this does not impact its durability, and it does not warp in snow or rain. The poles snap into plastic connectors, which can break if too much pressure is applied when assembling.

Surface Area & Weight Capacity

The Coleman Compact Aluminum Roll-Top Table is 28.5 inches in lenth and width and enough to handle most activities for two people and definitely for one. We could use it to stage gear before a day of hiking, comfortably have a meal for two, and work with a laptop if we had a compatible chair.

We used it for cooking, and with a two-burner stove, we could also fit condiments and a few other items, but there was no room for food prep. We loaded it close to its fifty-pound weight capacity, and the table didn’t move, even on uneven ground.

Portability

Carrying the Coleman Compact Aluminum Roll-Top Table from the car to camp was a breeze, thanks to its cylindrical bag with a handle.

Although it doesn’t fold down super compactly, we had no trouble sliding or squeezing it between our other gear in the car. At nine pounds, it feels surprisingly lightweight in your hands.

Height

Measuring 28.5 inches tall, this table isn’t adjustable, so you’ll need chairs of a certain height for it to work well as a dining table. Some basic camp chairs might be too short.

However, it’s a great height for using alongside your truck’s tailgate, which is where we usually set it up. For cooking, prepping, or handling gear, the height is also perfect, which is what we mostly use it for.

Ease of Setup

Setting up the Coleman Compact Aluminum Roll-Top Table is a breeze. To do it, just pull from opposite ends to extend the base, then snap two tent-like poles onto the frame and roll out the table top, connecting it to the poles.

Just be mindful of pinch points when folding the frame for storage.

Should You Buy the Coleman Compact Roll Top Aluminum Table?

While the manufacturer of this table suggests it seats four, we found that it is better suited for solo or double car campers, especially when you want to keep gear minimal and use it to complement the tailgate of your truck or another table you may already have.

The Coleman Compact Aluminum Roll-Top Table offers excellent value in terms of durability and can handle most campsite activities. It also makes a great workstation if you have the right chair height.
