Bottom Line

The Fjallraven Keb Agile pants are built for those who value durability and rugged performance above all else. These are tough pants that feel right at home on kneeling in rocks, bashing through brushy trails, and long days in unpredictable conditions. These are some of the most durable pants in our men’s hiking pants guide.

The Keb’s reinforced knees and a burly stretch fabric handle abrasion far better than most lighter hiking pants while still offering enough mobility for hiking. The pants’ heavier material also provides excellent weather resistance. However, we found the Keb Agile pants hotter and less breathable than most hiking pants – even with its zippered side vents.

These pants are better suited for moderate temperatures. For those putting their gear through the most punishing conditions, the Keb Agile is an excellent choice that is sure to withstand prolonged and heavy use.

How We Tested

We wore the Fjallraven Keb Agile over the course of 3 months in late winter and early spring conditions of Alaska. Our testing included hikes in fickle spring weather – where we encountered cold, snowy, and hot weather. We also wore the pants for yard work to test their durability.

Comfort & Mobility

Fjallraven is renowned for its rugged construction and burly materials. The Keb Agile continues that tradition but in a more flexible and mobile package.

True to its name, the Keb Agile has increased mobility over other Fjallraven models. The main material stretches and feels like a softshell. The pockets and reinforced knees feature a heftier fabric which limits mobility in those areas. We noticed limited movement with some large steps across boulders, but these pants still offer good enough mobility for most outings.

The Keb Agile is not our first choice for rock climbing or other activities with awkward stretching movements. Still it offers more mobility than other Fjallraven pants we’ve tested and reviewed.

Breathability

The Keb Agile has a unique fabric blend that’s heavier than lightweight hiking pants, which impacts their breathability. During our testing in 40 to 60 degree temperatures, we felt more comfortable in the Keb Agile on cooler test days. When exerting ourselves at hotter temperatures, the pants felt clammy and retained noticeable heat.

Zippered vents on the outside of either leg somewhat offset this problem, but there’s no denying the Keb Agile is less breathable than lighter-weight models. Even though it’s not our top choice for warmer temperatures, we still find the Keb Agile breathable enough for mid- to low-exertion activities or for colder temperatures.

Weather Resistance

With its thick construction and sturdy blend of materials, the Fjallraven Keb Agile has excellent weather resistance. It lacks a DWR coating, yet Fjallraven’s G-1000 fabric blend does a great job of keeping moisture out.

These pants eventually wet through in heavy rain, but they withstood soaking for much longer than other pants in our lineup. The Keb Agile pants won’t replace your rain pants but can handle hiking in inclement weather.

Durability

The highest scoring metric of the Keb Agile is its extreme durability. We tested them by walking through thorns and brush, kneeling in gravel, and working in the yard. They’re among the most durable pants we’ve tested.

The reinforced knees, inside pant cuffs, and pockets are excellent touches in high-contact areas. Feeling like a pair of work pants that hike, the Keb Agiles are a top choice for those who prioritize durability. These are the pants to use when bushwhacking or spending long days with heavy use.

Features

The Fjallraven Keb Agile is one of the most feature-rich pants in our lineup. Each pair comes equipped with four pockets: two hand and two zippered thigh pockets. They forgo seat pockets found on most American-branded pants, but we did not lack space to carry essentials on the body.

An elastic cuff with a metal snap is great for fitting securely over boots. In warmer temperatures or during heavy exertion, the zippered leg vents were a nice feature to moderate our temperature.

Should You Buy the Fjallraven Keb Agile Pants?

For those who prize durability above all else, it’s hard to get much better than the Fjallraven Keb Agile. The reinforced knees and highly durable material make it perfect for anyone planning on spending extended periods of time bushwhacking or kneeling on rocks and gravel. The trade-off is they’re less breathable and much hotter than other pants in our lineup. Even though the zippered leg vents help, these pants may be too warm for summer.

For us, this is a work pant that hikes or a hiking pant that works. The Keb Agile is a great choice for anyone looking for a durable, long-lasting pair of pants.
